Eco-Safe Wood Treatment and Weathered Wood Finish both provide a staining and protective effect that is food-safe for countertops, butcher blocks, and cutting boards.

If the surface has been heavily treated with oil or wax in the past then our water-based stain may have some difficulty penetrating that, and the surface may need to be sanded first.

The stain should penetrate the wood to provide a stain and protective effect.

The stain is non-toxic, but residue can affect the taste of food prepared on the stained board, so we recommend thoroughly washing and drying the stained board three times after the stain has dried. An occasional finishing with beeswax will keep the board in good shape going forward.
